Walter Schulten (1920 – 1993)
Art Historian and Priest

Walter Schulten was born in Stadtlohn on 6 June. In 1950 he entered the Missionary Society of the Holy Ghost. On 16 July 1954 he was ordained as priest. In 1958 he became priest at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Bonn – Bad Godesberg. In 1964 he wrote his doctorate in art history on the subject of the Holy Steps at Kreuzberg in Bonn. In 1966 he was administrator for the rector at the Queen of the Rosary in Asbach-Limbach. In 1969 he was sacristy priest at the Cologne Cathedral, custodian of the Cathedral treasury, director of the Diözesanmuseum as well as specialist for Church Building Works, Church Art and Preservation in the Archbishopric general vicariate in Cologne and member of the art commission. In 1989 Walter Schulten retired. He died in Knechtsteden on 23 June 1993.
